After a long time that the era of mining Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies began, there is a time that there is an interesting market for second-hand graphics cards to mining your favorite cryptocurrencies. This is because the evolution of the hardware follows its unstoppable course. This causes new graphics cards to come out every so often, making old ones obsolete, although not for everyone. Does this mean that a second-hand graphics card can’t longer mining? Not at all. A second-hand graphics card can go very well for a few years yet, it may not have as much performance as the last one on the market, but it sure can go very well for a long time.
A graphics card is a hardware with a design made to last and give good performance. It has no durable memory like a hard drive, and this is what makes it really durable.
What is clear is that the mining process works much better from a graphics card than from the computer’s processor. It gives fewer errors, since it heats up less, in addition to that it holds the heat much better.
It is clear that mining consumes energy and a lot, but we will always do better with a graphics card to mine, that’s for sure.
When we buy a second-hand graphics card, whether for mining or for something else, we must try to make sure that, 1) The card has not been overclocked and 2) Pay good attention to the fans in case you carry them. Fans is one of the parts of the graph that you have to pay more attention when buying second hand. Check that these turn well, if you can try it before buying it better, but if not, make sure that the card has a minimum guarantee of return in the case that it does not work the first day. If the card works the first day you can already be sure that they have not cheated you. The case of the fans might not be a major problem, since most manufacturers usually sell replacement parts. Pay attention if the card you are going to buy meets the minimum requirements.
Although there are also two other ways to ventilate, they would be 1) Liquid cooling, based on a water pipe that passes through the heatsink (Although this form could be a bit dangerous if there is any water leak)
2) Oil cooling. The entire computer is immersed in a special oil and the fans are no longer needed, in fact they will turn much slower in case we want to keep them. (The cons are that everything is submerged in oil, to change something is a bit more “dirty”). But for me it is the best way.
